Boston College recently announced a major working conference
on the future of Catholic Religious Archives. The conference will be held in
July, 2018. Its purpose is to engage congregational leaders, archivists and
historians in identifying options for permanently housing endangered religious
collections and for providing appropriate levels and means of access.
CARA members Patricia Carroll and Malachy McCarthy have been
invited to serve on the conference planning committee. The committee’s work is
to outline important issues and pinpoint subject matter experts who can speak
on these areas of concern and lead fruitful results oriented discussion.
The conference committee hopes to generate ideas and
approaches toward developing a national strategy for preserving the archival
heritage of religious communities in the United States.
