CARA Fall Meeting to Be Held at First United Methodist Church in Evanston, IL

CARA's 2018 Fall Meeting will be held at First United Methodist Church in Evanston, IL, on November 15, 2018. Here are the details:

Where: First United Methodist Church, 516 Church Street, Evanston. If you are traveling via public transit, the church is near the CTA Davis Street stop and the Davis St. Metra station. For those driving, there is a city parking garage across the street from the church, or see the church's website for other options.

When: Thursday, November 15, 2018, 1-3pm.

What: 1-2pm The First United Methodist Church archives committee will give a tour of the church and its archives.
2-3pm Networking and CARA Business Meeting where Jerice Barrios will present a Treasurer's Report on the possibility of partnering with Chicago Area Archivists (CAA) in order to create a stable banking situation for CARA funds.

2018 Archivists for Congregations of Women Religious Conference

The Archivists for Congregations of Women Religious (ACWR) gathered at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, KY, on September 13-15, 2018, for the 9th Triennial Conference of the group. Approximately 120 archivists, both laypeople and religious, originating from the United States and Canada, made their way to Louisville to discuss the challenges of preserving the history of women religious.

Sr. Ray Maria McNamara, RSM, gave a plenary session entitled
"Gratitude for the Past and Hope for the Future"
Monte Abbott, Director of Province Center Operations, Sisters of the Good Shepherd,
gave a second plenary session on "Long-Term Strategies for the Preservation of Archives
for Communities Facing or Planning Completion"
ACWR President Denise Gallo led a panel on Custodia, ACWR's initiative to assist in
planning for the future of archives of women religious. The panel included Sr. Janice Farnham, RJM,
Sr. Mary Navarre, OP, and Charlene Martin, Archivist for the Sisters of St. Francis.

On August 30, 2018, it was announced that video of the plenary sessions from July's "Envisioning the Future of Catholic Religious Archives" conference, held at Boston College, have been made available to view through a channel on Youtube.

“Envisioning the Future of Catholic Religious Archives” was a working conference hosted by Boston College on July 11-13, 2018. It was designed to bring leaders of religious communities, archivists and historians together to seek and identify solutions to the issues that communities, including those coming to completion, are facing in preserving and providing access to their archival legacies.

Four sessions of the conference are available through the "Envisioning the Future of Catholic Religious Archives" YouTube Channel. See the conference program page for additional details about the sessions.
