If you missed the CARA workshop last week, you missed a good one! The workshop dealt with the archival management and preservation of film. It was not only a panel discussion by 3 experienced people in the field, but also a demonstration of film equipment, supplies and techniques...and a take away of great resources and links!
The speakers took turns and shared their knowledge and experience with their respective businesses and/or archives collections with much time for Q&A. The first to present was Erik Dix, audio and video archivist from the Archives of the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, IN, followed by Larry Urbanski from Urbanski Film in Orland Park, IL. The final speaker was our very own CARA member, Peter Gunther, archivist from the Robert M. Myers Archives of the Society of the Divine Word in Techny, IL.

We had 19 area archivists register for the workshop - a good turn-out! Thanks to Malachy McCarthy, CARA President, for putting together a very interesting and practical workshop as well hosting the event in his shop at the Claretian Missionary Archives.
Looking forward to the Spring 2013 CARA meeting, we intend to visit and tour the Shalom Chicago exhibit that opened at the Chicago Historical Museum this past October. More info to come next year.
Hope to see you there!
