Sister Marian Voelker, OSF
(Louis Marie)

CARA member, Sister Marian Voelker, OSF (1935 – 2013), died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Illinois, on February 9, 2013. Sister Marian was born in East St. Louis, Illinois, to the late Marian (Schilling) and Robert Voelker. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers: Robert, John, William, Thomas and Guy. She is survived by her sister, Teresa (Michael) Anagnostopoulos, brothers, Louis (Anna) and James (Caryl) and sister‐in‐law, Ruth. Sister Marian was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 57 years.
Before entering religious life, Sister Marian was a member of St. Elizabeth Parish in East St. Louis, Illinois, and attended the Parish Grade School. She graduated from St. Teresa Academy in East St. Louis. Sister Marian earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree in Theology from the College of St. Francis (University of St. Francis) Joliet, Illinois. She also received a Master of Arts in Library Science from Rosary College (Dominican University) in River Forest, Illinois. After receiving her degree she continued her studies in Archival Administration.
Sister Marian spent fifteen years ministering in elementary education as a teacher and principal. She has ministered in various libraries including the College of St. Francis, Joliet Public, elementary schools and the Will County Jail through the Center for Correctional Concerns. As Archivist for the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate since 1975, she has often served the University of St. Francis and various religious communities of men and women in documenting and preserving their archival materials.
The wake for Sister Marian will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL, (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Friday, February 15, 2013, from 2:00 – 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Saturday morning, February 16, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, Illinois.
 
Sister Marian hosted CARA in October 2010 for the Sisters of St. Francis exhibit at the Joliet Historical Museum.  We had a great time together.  Revisit the day here.

This seminar addresses:

· Common preservation formats of electronic records;
· Appraising, accessioning, and preserving electronic records;
· Working with records creators; and,
· Promoting and continuing your electronic records program.

All archives must address the management of electronic records to some degree, and you may not have the background in electronic records or the confidence to tackle this daunting task! This 90-minute web seminar provides you the basics you need to start solving your electronic records problems. This course is one of the Foundational Courses in the Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) Curriculum and Certificate Program, but is intended for any archivist looking to begin thinking about what to do with born-digital records.
