Introduction to Planning for Digitization Projects
Led by Beaudry Allen, March 14, 2022 at 3:00 PM Eastern
There are many reasons why a repository would want to digitize their material and sometimes the hardest part moving forward with such a project is thinking about where to start or even think out what equipment and workflows are best for you. In this 60-minute webinar, participants will learn practical steps and concepts to consider to help establish a digitization project. The webinar will go over basic archival principles to consider, how to choose equipment, discuss how to design workflows for non-archivist employees or volunteers, and explore tools and services available to help along the way. The webinar is open to all, but focused on digitization for novices. Beaudry Allen is the Preservation and Digital Archivist for Villanova University. She previously worked processing collections for the American Religions Collection and overseeing digitizing at University of California, Santa Barbara. She holds a Masters in Archival and Records Management from San Jose State University and a Masters in European History at Villanova University.

Join your colleagues for the Midwest Archives Conference 2022 Annual Meeting in Madison, Wisconsin! Registration is now open for the MAC Annual Meeting that will be held in Madison, WI, May 5-7, 2022, at the Madison Concourse Hotel and Governor’s Club.
The conference theme of “Moving Archives Forward” is a tribute to the state’s motto “Forward,” adopted in 1851 and meant to signify Wisconsin's continuous drive to be a national leader. This also provides a useful lens through which to examine the archival profession and to explore professional, environmental, societal, and cultural factors that affect the way we move forward, the way we see trends, and the way we identify challenges and opportunities. A variety of tours are planned for Thursday, May 5 and the opening reception will take place at the Wisconsin Historical Society. The plenary session speaker will be Margaret Noodin, Professor of English and American Indian studies at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Dr. Noodin also serves as the Associate Dean of the Humanities and Director of the Electa Quinney Institute for American Indian Education.
For the first time, MAC is offering a hybrid option for the annual meeting, including virtual access to the plenary, members’ meeting, and selected sessions! Check out the annual meeting blog at https://madisonmac2022.wordpress.com/ for information on travel tips, local COVID-19 guidelines, child care, recommendations for restaurants and things to do while you’re in Madison. The blog will also include updates about the conference on a regular basis between now and May, so be sure to check it often.
For full details about the meeting and to view the program, visit: https://www.midwestarchives.org/2022-mac-annual-meeting. From this page you will be able to register for the in-person conference or the virtual conference (note that these are two separate registration forms). We look forward to seeing you--whether in-person or virtually--in Madison!
